In the border it has "Trade Mark" on top, "Portland Oregon" on the bottomMiddle has G L C o
It is located on the back of the cantle.
This saddle belonged to my Great-Aunt who was born in 1906. She would have been living in Rock Creek, Montana when she got the saddle. She was most likely in her 20's when she got it and I don't know if she bought it new or used.
I'll post more pictures of it when I get home and get the leather cleaned up.

UPDATE! It is the makers mark of the George Lawrence Company. I was able to get in contact with a relative of George Larwence and this is part of his response.
"I looked in our 1921 catalog, and found wild designs of that period, but could find nothing like it. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't a custom order, since I don't recall ever seeing the pattern of the couple carved onto the skirt - or the double hearts for that matter."

Cool saddle. Take your picture to the Ranchcountry board. Someone over there would probably know. quite a few saddle makers on there. There is a link to the board on my blog. Be sure and leave a little intro so they don't kick you off.
That is the trade mark of the George Lawrence Co of Portland, Or.
Good, well made saddles, but not generally custom made though they did do a huge mail business. Your saddle was made between 1893 & 1980, probably around 1925-30, judging from the style.
